“But where do I leave
of Sassol the people … ?
That land of love,
of ardent glory,
mother of that
which is most valuable elsewhere,
sent a hundred horses…”
(Alessandro Tassoni, 1630: La secchia rapita, Canto III – 47)
The Firm Pincelli & Partners is headquartered in the historical “Cavallerizza Ducale” building. The building used to be part of the “Delizia Estense”, which is to say the Ducal Palace of Sassuolo, summer residence of the d’Este court. The Cavallerizza Ducale was built between 1781 and 1788, during the dukedom of Ercole Rinaldo III d’Este. The first floor, where the Firm has its offices, was once occupied by the Ducal Dragons, while the ground floor used to be a stable for up to 102 horses.
The building features a majestic wooden gable roof supported by 23 trusses. The northern façade is decorated by perspective patterns that opened on the sight of the Peschiera Ducale. The Peschiera Ducale is an amazing “fountain theatre” where the stalls is a large fish farming pool with a series of stages covered in tuff and shells on the sides, facing the scene of the “Estense mountain” with its gushing fountains and the Estense Eagle right on the top.
The Cavallerizza is listed as historical and artistic building. Over the years, the building had fallen into disrepair and abandonment. Between 1991 and 1998, it was fully recovered thanks to a series of major interventions. Since 1998, the offices of the Firm Pincelli & Partners are located on the first floor of the building, while the ground floor houses exhibitions, conferences, and similar activities.
